I recently purchased one of these for our house. Our family suffers from allergies which result many times in sinus infections, as well as colds. I was tired of our two young kids constantly being medicated for their runny noses and I thought this would help. My wife was a bit skeptical, but within the first 2 days of installing this air purifier in the family room the stuffy noses went away and we have not had a sinus infection (or really even a runny nose) since. I have purchased 3 more - one for each bedroom - and am very pleased with the performance. The unit is barely noticeable on the "silent" mode (I have to put my hand over it to know it is on). The kids like the "medium" setting for bedtime because it provides some "white" noise. I typically leave them on medium when we are not home. I have cleaned all of the units and it was very easy. All you do is use the brush attachment on the vacuum and clean up the front, top and inside of it. I did use the Assail a Cell cleaner on the Truman Cell - simply spray it on, wash it off and let it dry overnight. Some people have complained of the snapping or popping noise that the Oreck's occasionally make but I have only heard it a couple times and it let me know it is doing it's job. I have had overall excellent results with this air purifier and highly recommend it. The remote control is very handy. The air in our home feels and smells clean and fresh.

It's time to clear the air. And now there's an easy, portable, proactive way to do it.The EPA says indoor air may be 5 times more polluted than the air outside, and most of us spend approximately 90% of our time indoors. If you have weather-tight doors and windows, pets, or smoke, you could be adding to the problem. That's why you need the new, whisper-quiet ProShield Plus Air Purifier - the easy, portable, proactive way to help clean the air in your home. It circulates the air, filters out allergens, dirt, and other airborne irritants, captures and kills viruses and germs, and breaks down odors and volatile organic compounds such as chemical fumes and aerosol vapors - with the new Helios ShieldTM permanent odor absorber.

Great for Asthma and Allergy Sufferers.Every time you close your front door, you're sealing yourself in with airborne bacteria, dust, germs, and allergens. Some you can smell. Most you can't. The new Oreck ProShieldTM Plus helps reduce those nasty particulates in homes, and actually improves air quality. At the same time, it also helps eliminate odors. That's becuase the Oreck ProShield Plus constantly moves the air, drawing in and trapping those particulates. Its unique new Helios ShieldTM UV odor control technology and exclusive Truman CellTM captures pet dander, dust, and other harmful allergens that can drive asthma and allergy sufferers crazy.

Whisper-quiet, easy to use, and environmentally friendly. The ProShield Plus features easy-to-use controls and offers three different speed settings - high for maximum cleaning, medium for normal use, and silence for quietest operation. A handy remote control allows you to turn the power on or off, and adjust the odor control feature, motor speed, and night light - all from across the room. The Truman CellTM permanent filter never needs to be replaced - which saves you money and reduces waste.

Honeywell 17000 HEPA QuietCare Air Cleaner Review

Honeywell 17000 HEPA QuietCare Air Cleaner
Average Reviews:

I use this HEPA machine in my bedroom 24/7. It's helped dramatically with my many allergies (I just found out the allergies are causing my asthma that I've had for 9 months).
The only gripe I have with this machine is that it states that it's "Quietcare". On high, this thing is pretty loud!
However, I had a more inexpensive model (I think it was Honeywell 50010) and it was deafening, so this is an improvement.
Otherwise, this machine is giving me EXCELLENT results. I can sleep through the night without my eyes watering or dry mouth. It's improved my breathing (my family tells me 'I sound better') and helped with my snoring problems. At the price they're selling it for here, I'd pick one up. If noise bothers you just keep it on the low setting.
It really is a good product!

Shopping for the right air cleaner in my opinion is more of a challange than shopping for a new car. I studied most all of them and found that there are many con-games going on with cleaver advertise schemes. I ended up purchasing both Newport 9000 and the Sharp FP-N60CX because I couldn't decide. And I love both. It has been six months and they are on all the time -- contineous. I have four large dogs, the air is fresh and my girfriend with dog allergies is doing fine. I have found both reliable economical and working as advertised. I use the Newport in the larger living-room and the Sharp in the bedroom. They both appear to be on the leading edge of technology sampling the air and automatically adjust. Both are operating in the automatic mode day and night -- noise is not a problem. Perfectly Satisfied.

The advanced technology Newport 9000 air purifier from Advanced PureAir features a state-of-the-art 9-stage air pollution detection, diagnostic, filtration and purification system which includes: sophisticated air quality sensors; diagnostic sensors indicating when it's time to change filters or conduct other routine maintenance; pre-filters for trapping larger airborne particulates; hi-performance HEPA filter which are 99.97% effective in capturing harmful airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns; Activated Carbon which absorbs noxious odors, fumes and gases; a Germicidal UV Light which actually destroys bacteria, viruses and other airborne germs; Dual Photo Catalyst Nano-TiO2 Germicidal Sanitizers which suppress the growth of harmful microorganisms including mold and mildew; and Negative Ion Generation which is extremely effective at clearing smoke, decreasing carbon monoxide levels, combating airborne infections and even reducing fatigue. Filters pollen, smoke, air pollutants, odors, bacteria, germs, mold pet dander and more.... Also features a powerful but ultra quiet 5-speed fan; intuitive easy to read LCD control panel; and 4 mode automatic on/off timer funtion. The Newport 9000 air purifier's use of 9 separate, integrated air filtration and purification technologies allows the unit to match and surpass the best aspects of competing air purifiers while avoiding their multiple shortcomings. Instead of just offering a handful of features that eliminate SOME air pollutants, SOME odors or A FEW germs the unit integrates a complex set of technologies which detect and eliminate harmful air pollutants, dangerous germs and noxious odors that other limited-technology air purifiers simply can't. That's the Newport 9000 difference!

Bionaire BAP1700-U PERMAtech Tower Air Purifier with Timer and Air-Quality Sensor Review

Bionaire BAP1700-U PERMAtech Tower Air Purifier with Timer and Air-Quality Sensor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Doesn't seem like a lot of people have bought this product. I was considering a similar Honeywell model, and after comparing the boxes of both products at Target I went with the Bionaire. I admit my largest reason for going with the Bionaire was that the feature set was about the same as the Honeywell, but the Bionaire was more attractive. With my air purifier that replaced this one, I tried to hide the unit because it was ugly. This unit is looks good and I do not try to hide it at all. Further, the materials seem to be a better quality then the similar Honeywell models (I am going solely on look and feel).
When looking for an air purifier, I wanted a unit where I didn't have to replace any filters. The unit features two large permanent HEPA filters that every three months you clean by vacuuming the filters. There is a reminder light when it is time to do so. There is three speed settings. The lowest setting is very quiet. The highest setting is quite loud. I can sleep to both the low and medium settings. Not so with the high setting.
There is also a timer so after 2, 4, or 6 hours the unit will shut itself off. Another feature is an automatic setting which is supposed to monitor the quality of air and adjust the settings. I am not sure if the unit really does try to sense anything or just goes through a preset routine. I guess it is the preset routine. FInally, there is an ionizer. Some people say this is bad for the air, some say it is good for the air. I really have no idea what is true. I do know that after a while ionizer air seems dryer, which I do not like. This machine allows you to shut the ionizer off or on to suit whatever your take on the issue might be.
Overall, I am quite pleased with the purchase. There might be better units, but they will likely be 1) uglier (subjective I know), and 2) cost more. For disclosure, I have had the product for only two weeks, but I have ran it constantly taking it through the paces.

With its slim, space-saving tower design, this air purifier offers out-of-the-way placement while effectively delivering cleaner, healthier indoor air to rooms up to 170 square feet (13 by 13 feet). Choose from three speed settings: low for quieter operation, medium for continuous use, or high for poor air-quality conditions. The unit's PERMAtech filter with HEPA media removes up to 99-percent of airborne particles, as small as two microns, from the air that passes through it for a CADR of 110 for smoke, 110 for dust, and 110 for pollen. To help freshen the air naturally, the unit also offers an optional ionizer, which releases negative ions into the filtered air. The negative ions then connect with positively charged particles to form larger particles that can be more readily picked up by the filter. The permanent filter never needs to be replaced, and it cleans easily with the brush attachment of a household vacuum cleaner. Other highlights include a filter-service indicator that takes the guesswork out of wondering when it's time to clean the filter, a timer that allows for programming the unit to turn on and off at certain times of the day, and a built-in air-quality sensor, which measures the indoor air quality and automatically adjusts the speed as needed for optimal filtration. The air purifier measures 11-1/6 by 8-2/9 by 29-5/8 inches.

I have two different models of this air filter. We bought one and used it. Then, we bought another unit. They run 24x7 in my house because some family members have allergies and we have multiple pets. I've had no problems at all. The noise level is quite tolerable to us, even with one sitting right behind the sofa. One thing I have to remember to do is turn them on again after a power failure. However, that's a safety feature and I don't want most electrical appliances coming on automatically after a power outage. The big advantage to this brand is that the air filters last longer and are easy to change. In addition, the controls allow the user to select the combination of features he wants to use.

Got this on time and worked right out of the box. At first I was debating either this one or another purifier but the remote and 3 years warranty really stood out. Used it for a few days in the kitchen and bathroom - it does wonders! What surprised me the most was we have a smoker in the house and this machine removed the cigarette smell just over night. My friend saw it and bought one for his house. I would definitely suggest giving this purifier a test drive.

Alen Desktop Air Purifier - T100 Review

Alen Desktop Air Purifier - T100

This little purifier looks good, has three fan speeds, and a "ion" mode that can be turned off. The HEPA filter gets changed every 6 months and costs $20. To get the "lifetime warranty" you need to sign up for a filter delivery program. This may not be too bad if you use the unit all the time, but it is not too clear how to stop the program once initiated. My first unit was noisy, so I requested a replacement. The replacement arrived promptly, and works well. On low fan setting, it is very quiet. Higher settings circulate a LOT of air, and should be good if you have a serious problem.

Instructions for removing UV bulb are not clear; I broke mine when cleaning because the instruction manual was not very informative in how to remove the bulb and had to order a new bulb. Also the warning indicator light for the electrostatic filter was lit, inicating the filter had to be cleaned. When I dissasembled the filter, the electrostatic filter was very clean without any collected dust.

Ultraviolet light possesses just the right amount of energy to break organic molecular bonds. As microorganisms pass by the UV rays radiated from the ultraviolet lamp, this bond breakage translates into cellular or genetic damage for microorganisms, such as germs, viruses, bacteria, fungi (like molds), etc. This resulted in the destruction of the microorganisms. The same damage occurs to humans, but is limited to the skin and eyes. UV air purifiers, such as the Multi-Tech XJ-3000C from Surround Air, shield direct ultraviolet light from escaping the inside of the unit, sterilizing only the air that passes through the air cleaner. The Centers of Disease Control (CDC) recommends the use of ultraviolet light with simultaneous use of HEPA air filters, both of which are offered in the Multi-Tech XJ-3000C air purifier. The U.S. government now specifies that UV light should be used in air handling units to improve indoor air quality in government buildings, by controlling airborne and surface microbial growth. The Air Institute of Respiratory Education suggests UV lights be used in buildings for indoor air quality purposes, and states that may be the final line of defense against those diseases that have developed resistance to drugs, such as tuberculosis and others. According to the Aerobiological Engineering Dept. at Penn State University, the ultraviolet component of sunlight is the main reason microbes die in the outdoor air. The die-off rate in the outdoors varies from one pathogen to another, but can be anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes for a 90-99% kill of viruses or contagious bacteria. The Centers of Disease Control (CDC) recommends UV lights in homeless shelters to prevent the spread of disease, particularly TB (tuberculosis). A study by Air & Waste Management Association found the combination of a HEPA air filter and germicidal UV lamp reduced bacteria by 80% in a 3072 cubic foot chamber.

We bought this for our laundry room where we keep litter boxes and I have to say its made a tremendous difference in odor. We have tried ONA blocks, baking soda, and we have a HEPA filter in the room too and it would still smell. I was skeptical about this little bulb, but my boyfriend really wanted to try it and I am glad that we did. The litter boxes are barely noticeable now. We have found our solution!

The Ionic Light Bulb is first and foremost a CFL energy saving, full spectrum light bulb that saves 75% of the energy when compared to a regular incandescent light bulb. In addition to saving energy, the ionic bulb is an air purifier. The ionic bulb consists of a microchip size Ion generator powered by the bulb's own energy that is located in the middle of the base of the bulb. The Ion generator emits Ozone free negative ions. Being Ozone free, the bulb has absolutely no smell unlike other ionic purifiers. The negative ions generated from the ionic bulb eliminate smoke, odors, dust, pet dander, and other particles floating in the air. The ionic bulb purifies the air in an area of 100 square feet and lasts a minimum of 10,000 hours.

My daughter is handicapped and has problems blowing her nose (Cerebral Palsy).
She also has terrible alergies. We've tried everything over the years trying to make our house alergy free and her life more enjoyable. But she's constantly getting sick and have reactions.
We've tried several different airfilters. Finally after researching on the net and seeing the HealthPro Plus coming out on top on every test/review we decided to spend the 800 bucks and take a chance.
I'm happy to say it worked as advertised. Within the first 24 hours of running the filter in her room on high speed her chronic sniffles disappeared. The next day we moved the filter (it's on wheels) to the middle of the house to have it treat the air in the entire house.
It's really doing a great job. The air in our home smells fresh as though the windows were open. I can't recommend this unit enough.
Only one minor quibble. IT comes with casters but they seem sort of flimsy considering the size an wieght of the machine. I'm afraid they will snap off if I try rolling the unit across carpet. But that's a minor concern.
I love the fact we can program it to run when we want it to and that it comes with a remote.

I wanted an air purifier for my living room where I have some electronics that need protection from smoke and dust. I also needed a unit that could realistically and reliably clean the air sufficiently in this 250 square foot area and help remove the odor and particulate matter from occasional cigarette smoke that may drift into the room. It's a large volume area because of the high cathedral ceiling and open design. While that may not sound too difficult to accomplish with many mid to large air purifiers, I also wanted a unit that was as silent as possible, and that's not so easy to find.
I spent several weeks researching air purifiers and came away with the conclusion that IQ Air, Austin Air and Blueair are probably the best that the industry has to offer as far as big and powerful air purifiers go these days (IQ Air has a carbon filter with 5 pounds of charcoal and Austin Air has 15 pounds of charcoal ... 15 pounds!). So why didn't I choose one of those? Price, noise level, size and looks were the determining factors (although Blueair has good noise ratings and they look attractive, but are a bit on the pricey side). Excluding any of those models wasn't easy. Nor was it easy to cross off less expensive mid-power sized units from Sharp and Winix. I also had a difficult time choosing between several models of Rabbit Air. Decisions ... decisions....
In order to educate myself in the murky waters of outrageous air purifier claims, I turned to the internet, but at first I found no real help (not many websites review air purifiers). I had recently purchased a small, one-room air purifier from Alen and didn't do enough research. Turned out that I wasn't exactly thrilled with that purchase (although it's really not a bad unit per se ... I rated it 3 stars). Fortunately, I eventually found a website that took reviewing and testing of these products very seriously, which gave me more confidence when I decided to go for a more powerful (and expensive) unit in the living room. I highly recommend Air-Purifier-Power as the one and ONLY source (at present) to help shed some light on this less than stellar industry. Personally, I wouldn't rely on Consumer Reports as far as air purifiers go. I found them to be of little help and their testing methods for air purifiers have been under fire for years, and I can see why. What they rated highly gave me a good chuckle.
So now that I have the Rabbit Air 700A, what do I think? As the title indicates, this is a very quiet air purifier, perhaps one of the top two or three in the industry (of the ones that have fans ... I won't go into what I think about those that don't have fans). This unit has five different fan speeds (silent, low, medium, high and turbo). To me, noise level was as critical as cleaning ability. What good is an air purifier if it interferes with your daily living? I didn't want to have to turn up the TV to drown out a fan. Of course at the two top speeds (high and turbo), one can easily hear the 700A throughout the house. Still, its high speed is quieter than many products at mid speeds. So do yourself a favor and check out fan output (CFM) and the associated noise level (dBA) on any model you may want to purchase. The Rabbit Air 700A is about 46 dBA on turbo speed (@ 187 CFM) and under 21 dBA on silent speed (@47 CFM)! BTW, some products are even quieter than this, but check the CFM to see if they are putting out as much air at that noise level.
I chose the 700A over the 780A for a couple of reasons, even though I would have preferred black over white (not too impressed with the looks of this white model). The two reasons were value and noise level. These two models are virtually identical except the fan is revved up a bit on the 780A, making it a tad louder, but has the ability to suck in and blow more air and cover a little larger area. The first three speeds on the 700A (silent, low, medium) are indeed quiet, and the silent speed is aptly named. I have to get within 4 or 5 feet to begin hearing it. The CADR (clean air delivery rate) rating on the 700A and 780A is the same (except the 780A has a slightly better Pollen rating). As far as square footage is concerned, divide any number that these manufacturers spew out by two (normal ceilings) or three (high ceilings) and you will get a closer idea of what is realistic. If you assume the manufacturer's claims are legit, you may be in for disappointment (I'm pretty sure they calculate all these numbers based upon normal ceiling height and maximum fan speed, which is unrealistic in the normal home environment). I'd like to see a CADR rating at each fan speed and the use of volume in addition to square footage as far as coverage specification, but fat chance that these will ever be implemented.
What separated the Rabbit Air products from each other (the 700A and 780A vs their other models), as well as other manufacturers models, is the ability to choose a custom filter (they have four to choose from at present: germ, toxin, pet allergy and odor). This is a great idea, and one can order a specific filter type depending upon one's needs. I find this makes perfect sense. And installing and changing filters is simple and painless (pealing off the cellophane wrapper on these filters is a bigger pain than installing them). It also has a permanent pre-filter one can vacuum and/or wash, which I find a very important feature. Pre-filters pick up the biggest particulate matter, and I will no longer buy an air purifier without a cleanable pre-filter. Live and learn.
The ad states that it is a six stage purification system: anti-microbial pre-filter (read silver), anti-bacterial medium filter (additional dust catcher, which is unusual in the industry and helps not to overtax the HEPA filter), BioGS HEPA filter (I guess it gets that name because they added some anti-viral agents ... yeah, whatever), custom filter (not many companies I know, if any, have this option) and carbon filter (although I doubt there is much more than a pound of charcoal in it, but I haven't measured the weight). I guess the mysterious sixth stage is a negative ion generator (the good kind, but who knows these days?). I like the fact that their filter kits, which include the four changeable filters, are reasonably priced and are one of the better values I have found.
This model comes with a decent set of electronics and lights for giving you information, plus it performs automatic cycling (changes fan speed depending upon the air quality that the particle sensor reads), but it doesn't come with an odor sensor. This probably isn't too big of a deal since these sensors are hardly reference quality to begin with. However, even knowing the limitations of these sensors, I like the idea of having them included and thought for the price I paid for the 700A an odor sensor should have come with this unit. At least the particle sensor gives me some feedback (accuracy not withstanding) and a baseline to go from.
Rating air purifiers may not be too accurate unless one has used their particular model for a full filter cycle (anywhere from 6 months to a year depending upon the environment it is in). I've only owned this product for a little over 2 months now, and during that time I found the quality and performance has been very good. If things change during the year, I'll report back. So, between 1 and 10, I rate the Rabbit Air MinusA2 SPA-700A (that's a mouthful) an 8, or a solid 4-star rating, but this is assuming it will give me years of untroubled service (it does come with a 5 year warrantee, which is a big plus). Other than thinking it should have included an odor sensor (one of their cheaper models include this), I wish it had a more hefty carbon filter, say 3 pounds of charcoal at minimum, but it is what it is. This marginal carbon filter is the reason I selected the custom odor filter option (although I may opt for a different custom filter later on and swap them whenever I choose). I also felt that they should have provided a wall mounting bracket since they advertise it being wall mountable. Now if this bracket was an expensive to make add-on, I'd understand. But it's a bracket they make for a buck and sell for 10, so I consider this wringing out every cent they can from the consumer. I also had to laugh at their ridiculous claim concerning their "mood" light. Still, I'm pretty happy with this unit, but for the life of me I don't know where I can put it so it will be unobtrusive (but that would be the case for any of these devices).

Vicks V9075 Air Purifier True Hepa Kaz Review

We had been shopping around a while for a purifier, they were either too big or too expensive. This one, although it's small has been working very good for us and the price is not too high either. Our daughter was born prematurely, and hospital atmosphere is so clean and sterile, I was afraid she would come down with something when she got home. We decided to set the crib and the purifier up in our room for a while until she gets strong enough to sleep alone and we can really feel a difference in the air. It is compact taking up little space and blends nicely, its not an ugly looking clump. We will be buying another one for our other daughters room.

Honeywell HHT-145 HepaClean UV Antibacterial HEPA Tower 3-in-1 Air Purifier Review

I am allergic to cats, so naturally I adopted two and I'm about to get a third. I was STRUGGLING with my allergies so started looking into air purifiers and found that Honeywell consistently had good reviews. This was a very new model at the time I purchased and I was a bit nervous about being a guinea pig but my allergies clicked the purchase button for me.
I had to return the first unit because it started making a strange cyclic humming sound, kind of like the motor was getting tired - I'd only had it for about two weeks. Amazon Return Center is amazing and I had a replacement unit in two days. The second unit is great, I've had no problems so far. It's whisper-quiet (unless you crank it up to its highest setting, which isn't necessary) and I really notice a difference in the quality of the air. If I turn it off, I start getting the sniffles and itchy eyes in no time. I don't use the UV feature, but I do like the ionizer.
***UPDATE*** Unfortunately I've also had to arrange for the second unit to be returned, this time I contacted Honeywell directly. The purifier has been getting progressively more noisy and it sounds like the motor is straining. I'm really surprised because I have a couple of cheaper Honeywell units that have been on 24/7 for almost the last year and I have had absolutely no problems with them. I just don't think this unit is ready for the market yet. Honeywell customer service has been excellent, they were responsive and are going to exchange the purifier for one of their higher models at no charge. I think I might try the Rabbit Air purifier if the next unit I receive is not satisfactory. SIGH!

Austin Air HealthMate+ Review

I am very sensitive to chemicals. I give the HealthMate Plus credit for saving my life. With it in my home I can handle odors and chemicals from other apartments and the outside.
Mine has been thru neighbors painting, and remodeling. I did have a break down with it and the warranty was honored. They even put an emergency tag on the repair so it was repaired faster.
The newer ones are so much more quieter than the old ones. When I got mine back from the factory I was constantly putting my hand on it to see if it was running. It was just so quiet.
This is one of the first items that I recommend for a chemically sensitive person to buy.
When the box arrived all I had to do was lift the box off and plug it in. It was so well packed I was impressed.

Whirlpool Whispure 450 Air Purifier (AP45030K) - HEPA Air Cleaner Review

Whirlpool Whispure 450 Air Purifier (AP45030K) - HEPA Air Cleaner

(More customer reviews)
We bought this filter with the remaining balance of our medical savings account about five years ago, when it was $299. We didn't think we needed such a big filter, but if we didn't spend the money, it would just go to waste.
Let me tell you, we have now survived 2 fires in the San Diego region, the first fire came less than 1 mile from our house, blanketing our neighborhood like a nuclear winter ... For these cataclysms, we set the filter out in the center of our living room, and it cleans virtually the entire house! It was a life saver !! At a time when every air filter in the region flew off the store shelves like hot cakes, we had the ARNOLD SCHWARTZENEGGAR FILTER!!! You could smell smoke coming in underneath the doors (we later packed the doors with towels), but this air filter kept all our living areas fresh and clean!
We have a smaller floor standing honeywell $100 circular air cleaner #50100, the little brother of the 50250N. This Whirlpool is quieter than the Honeywell on all 3 settings, although the highest whirlpool setting may be louder than the lowest Honeywell setting. I'm sorry, this filter has just wrecked my enjoyment of our Honeywell circular filter. I just don't have patience for the circular filter any more, and now I'm a committed "Muscle Appliance" shopper (another muscle appliance of ours is the PATTON HIGH VELOCITY fan.)
The filter is box-shaped, with a side intake (shown in the picture). It blows air out of the top, at one of three speeds. The only control is a 3-speed knob (depicted.) The box size/shape of the honeywell takes arguably less floorspace than a circular cleaner. Because it has a side intake and blows air upwards, you can push this giant Whirlpool up against the wall, unlike a circular cleaner. Despite its bulk, it's relatively light, and the top panel overhangs both sides, making it easy to grip and carry. I have this one next to my lazy-boy chair and it makes an effective coffee table, with one caveat : If you have small children or are clumsy, take care not to drop anything down into the vents, because it doesn't come apart very easily. In a smaller room this would be on light duty. We use ours intermittently and we've only changed the HEPA once in 5 years, and the charcoal filter about 3 times.
Don't waste your money on gimmicks which are everywhere in air filter products. Don't settle for a HEPA-Type tower (filtering only 99%.) Buy the biggest, most powerful HEPA/Charcoal 99.97% filter than you can afford. You'll be grateful that you did the right thing !!

This AP250 is well put together, efficient, and ideal for a 320 sq foot or smaller room. It has very simple controls, 3 speeds and off, and it arrived ready to go -- no need to do any set up, just plug it in and enjoy. Best of all, it's extremely quiet. On low, it's barely audible, on medium, it has a pleasant low pitched hum that serves nicely as white noise, and even on high, the fan is considerably louder, but not annoying or shrill. I've tried much smaller units that were so loud it was impossible to sleep, watch tv, etc, while they were on... so this one is a keeper. The fan is powerful and it blows air straight up to circulate (supposedly it will clean the room air about 5x an hour). The back of the unit is flat, so it can be put flush against the wall. I'm trying to find out if it's ok to run it in a horizontal position with the air blowing out vs up, but until I confirm that, I'm leaving it on the floor. The only negatives I've found so far are that it's quite large-- bulkier than expected-- so it can't be used on a table easily, but it's not too heavy to move around. The 3 prong cord is a bit shorter than I'd like, so you are limited to placing it in a location a few feet from a wall socket. (they say you are not supposed to use an extension cord). It does require replacement pre-filters and True Hepa filters, which could get costly.Otherwise, I've had it running full time for a few days and I'm very pleased with the results. Dust is starting to accumulate, and the air feels fresh, despite my neighbor's not so great cooking! In case you're wondering, there is no ionizer feature in this unit ... probably just as well, given recent negative reports about ionizers. ABT delivery was fast. Very pleased .
