It is quite powerful, and generates high levels of ozone, so you won't want to run it longer than two hours in any room, no matter how much deodorizing you think is needed, and you won't want to enter the room for at least an hour after the unit stops running.
If you have LARGE, DAMP, basement rooms to clear, you may want the larger unit, but this one of more than enough for anything else you throw at it.

(More customer reviews)This item was broken when I received it. It was poorly packaged and when I did unpack it, had it not been broken it still was not in the condition the seller listed it. It was dirty inside and had a missing plate. The power cord was pushed through the filter in the back. All in all, I would have sent the machine back anyway. Also received the price of the machine back but did not get a refund on shipping or having to ship it back. Ended up out $34 and with no product.

New in the box! I created this listing, so the photos are of the actual item you will be receiving! It was only taken out of the box to be tested for a few minutes to make sure everything was in working order, but other than that, it's brand new. This brand of air purifier is awesome! I have used one for years, and it cured my allergies! It also kills 99.99% of germs, bacteria, mold and mildew!! This is a must have for any home! Sylvan Ozone Generator 3500mg/hr Ozone Output Review

(More customer reviews)After reading all the reviews, I splurged and bought one of these newer units with the "Always ON" feature for an old 1800 sq/ft house. It worked great removing the horrible stench of a dead squirrel in one of the walls that lingered for weeks even after removing the carcass.
For the first week, it worked great. I decided to use the "Always ON" feature while I stayed at a friend's place for the weekend. I came back a day later and noticed it was not outputting any Ozone. The plate inside the unit was not lighting up usual purple so I contacted Sylvan, and they advised me to clean off the Ozone Plate. I opened it up, and noticed a fruit fly on the plate. I wiped it off with some rubbing alcohol and it revived the dead unit, but it was flickering on and off and parts of the plate were not lighting up. So they are sending me a replacement ozone plate which I told them I would replace myself.
I gave this product 3 stars, because when it works, it does a great job, but I believe the issues I had with this unit is due to lack of features. It needs a filter for the intake port to keep debris and insects from entering the intake port and shorting out the ozone plate. I believe it has a 400cfm fan, which will pull in a lot of air and particles through the unit.
If I can figure out it was in fact the fly that shorted the plate out and not the quality of the parts used inside, I may end up keeping it and customize it to suit me better like adding a filter and installing a different timer.
Also, Sylvan's customer service is First Class!
**UPDATE 8/1/10***
The unit is completely dead besides the fan. I opened up the unit, opened the case for the High Voltage Multiplier and I noticed a 22uF 400V capacitor had a nice hole in it. This is the reason why the Ozone Plate is not working and the reason why it was flickering before. The manufacturer of the capacitors are JakeC, which is a low quality brand from China.
I will try to replace the bad capacitor and see how it goes.
**UPDATE 8/14/10**
After replacing the bad 22uF 400V capacitor and the other one (for safe measure), it was still dead. Since most of the PCB and components were covered in epoxy, the only thing I could test were the two 13005 transistors mounted on the heat sink (metal lower panel). Both transistors were shorted so I replaced them with high quality parts (part# ST13005) and now it's back up and running. I ran it for a 24 hour cycle, and it's been running fine without issues.
Also, the front grill is starting to oxidize from the ozone after (3) 24-hour cycles, and (10) 1-hour cycles). I assumed it was stainless steel but now it doesn't appear so.
**UPDATE 8/17/10**
It has been running great and has been doing a good job even after running it for 48 hours straight. I contacted Sylvan about the repair I made, and they offered to compensate me for my time, which shows that they do care about their customers, but I did not accept.
**UPDATE 10/30/10**
My unit is still working well. I haven't had the need to use it as much, since it did a very good job initially by eliminating the odors that wouldn't go away. I use it maybe once a month to freshen the house and it still outputs huge amounts of ozone. For anyone not very familiar with Ozone Generators, especially ones that output this much ozone, they can be hazardous to your health so I would recommend only using it when there are no people/pets in the house (use with caution). When I walk into the house while the Ozone generator is running, I have a very difficult time breathing. Let the room air out for an hour or two and/or open windows after it has shut off.
I also want to add that long term use of this machine is not wise. I noticed after several uses, our 3 month old leather furniture ($2,500) is beginning to crack/oxidize in some areas (non-seating areas) from the initial "bombing".

EcoQuest Fresh Air Purifier 2.1 Ozone Free Review

(More customer reviews)We live in a dusty place--agriculture nearby, windy conditions and a relatively dry climate mean constant dust. Plus we are in an area of high air pollution with coal-fired power plants. I find lots of dust in the house, and I know it makes me uncomfortable. We purchased the EcoQuest Fresh Air Purifier during a home show, and I find it lives up to its promises of cleaner air, though there is certainly a downside to using it (more about later.)
How it works
Some air purifiers work by filtering the air--they bring IN the air with a fan and blow it across a filter or precipitator to remove the dust. But the EcoQuest is different; it bombards the air with ions that make the dust fall down and break apart. While this sounds like science fiction, it is a well-known method of precipitating particles in many applications. Therefore, one EcoQuest works on a large area--in our case we use one for the main part of the house which is open plan and find it controls dust in the great room, the upstairs hallway and kitchen. (maybe a 1700 sq ft area.) When we need dust control in the bedrooms, we just move it in there. Normally, ours sits on the top of the stairs where it can reach the great room, hallways and kitchen.
This is the major advantage of the EcoQuest--since it doesn't rely on bringing air into it, you can position it to cover a large part of a house.
Appearance and Operation
The Ecoquest Fresh Air Purifier is a squarish box, black in front and with faux rosewood plastic on the side. I guess it is about as unobtrusive as you can get, not pretty but not ugly either. It is the size of four or five phone books standing on end. There is a front panel with lcd readout and press-membrane style controls.
The unit has an ultraviolet light that generates ozone and then inside, there is a plate of ceramic covered with a metal screen. This is the ion generator.
The fan has several speeds, from one to five, five being the loudest and fastest.
The UV lamp in our unit, with fairly constant use, has been in service for two years and has not shown any signs of burning out. So far, so good. You can choose settings based on the size of the area you wish to clean (small bedroom, car interior, large open room). We live in a pretty large open area, so we usually leave the unit on the 1750 sq ft setting.
You can choose how long to leave on the unit from 2,4, to 6 hours continuous operation, on high. This setting is for cleaning the house while you are gone. We choose to use this on days when the dust is getting to us, and we leave the house.
When we come home we notice:
1. The dust on the furniture is smaller in texture, and the carpets feel soft. The claim that the dust is broken down seems to be true.
2. We notice the lightning-struck smell of ozone. Some people find ozone a pleasant, fresh smell, but in large amounts, it is an irritant to me, and more than a little will give me a royal headache and makes me cough.
The Down Side
So, now, to the down side of the EcoQuest. The UV light generates ozone, and the ionizer plate apparently does as well. Ozone for many people, especially asthma suffers, is quite irritating. It's actually a toxic gas in large amounts. So one has to go cautiously with the EcoQuest and air out the house. Ozone is used by fire remediation to purify air after a disaster, and also to remove stubborn odors. It's a valid technique to purify air, as long as you remove the ozone afterwards. On its own, ozone is actually a pollutant. But it is a reactive type of molecule and breaks down, so getting rid of it is not difficult.
Maintenance
Monthly maintenance is required if you use the EcoQuest regularly or if the air is dirty. If you forget, a light goes on, indicating it's time to clean the ion generating plate. There is a ceramic plate inside you remove by unscrewing a back plate Then you vacuum off the plate and dust out the inside carefully. This takes us about 15 minutes.
Parts to replace would include the ceramic plate and the UV lamp. So far, in two years of constant use, we have not had to replace anything.
Summary
The EcoQuest lives up to its claim of reducing dust by breaking it down and by generating air-freshening ozone. However, too much ozone is a pollutant in itself. Therefore, you have to use it carefully and be mindful that if you cannot tolerate ozone, this may not be the purifier for you. As long as we don't crank up the ozone, we are quite happy with the unit. We have enjoyed good operating life with little maintenance so far.

Commercial Air Purifier Cleaner Ozone Generator by New Comfort Review

(More customer reviews)This comes in a white box that says in large type "Made in China" and not much else. Directions don't say much other than to plug in and turn it on. They also don't say anything about being able to remove plates. Doesn't say which plates or how many can be removed to reduce the output. There should be things in the directions like tables that say how long the machine should be on for various sized spaces. Also, things like how long to remain outside the space after the treatment has finished. I already know some of these answers but they should be in the directions for those that don't know. The three plates do appear to be ceramic but are fairly thin (easy to accidentally break). They slide into to slots on the back. These slots are horizontal and evenly spaced. The directions DO clearly state that max output is 3000mg/hr - not 3500mg/hr, as listed on Amazon. That might have effected my decision to buy this one vs. a different one. It's bigger than expected. Has about the same footprint as a 24 pack of soda and is a little shorter. It does seem to work, albeit at 86% it's advertised power, and construction seems adequate.
This isn't an everyday air cleaner. It should only be used by those that know what they are doing. O3 and NOx are harmful gases to breathe.

LIVING AIR XL-15 ALPINE FRESH AIR PURIFIER Review

(More customer reviews)We bought our alpine air XL 15 back in 1999, for our store, and we liked it so much that we bought another unit for our home. The machine takes care of up to 2500 sq feet, be it single- or multi-level. Our home is 2200 sq feet and our XL 15 does it all - whether doors are open or closed. Our air is always fresh and allergies are almost non-existent. We had to shut the machine down when we were remodeling and that's when I learned I REFUSE to live without it, ever again! I recommend the XL-15 for anyone who is looking to improve their inside air quality - and if you have pets, you will love it. By the way, after we had our first unit 9 years, we had to replace the home unit and did not hesitate for a moment in doing so. We closed our shop and gave that unit to our mother, who is a heavy smoker (in her house, no less). She runs it 24x7 and cleans it every other month. When you walk into her house, you can't even tell that she smokes in there and she is breathing a lot better! The best thing about it is that it's a single unit that does the whole house (all rooms) with the doors closed - no need to move it. Just place it high (like on top of a bookcase - ours is adjacent to our heat/air vent in the family room) and forget it. I also know of a nail salon that bought a unit and you can't smell the nail products in that salon! I don't know about all the negative hype you read on CR and others, but I disagree with it - at least for the XL-15, and since I have almost 11 years, non-stop, experience using this machine (XL 15) I can attest to it's being worth every single penny of the cost!

I like the idea of sanitizing utensils, de pesticide fruits, take out antibiotic and other chemical out of meats.
Since I bought ozonator I try to use it every time I have chance.
The fruits last longer for a fact!!!
The meats taste the same. But I know that after 15-20 minutes I azonated water its better for me and my children to consume.
After all its easy to use. Its clamed to be good for you. Its very affordable.
What else can I ask for?!

(More customer reviews)Seems like a very good unit.. quiet air flow quite good but the only drawback that I can measure is the cost of the three ( 3 ) hepa filters at $24.95 each.. Maybe the filters are less somewhere other than Holmes.. can't seem to locate part no. HAPF600CS..
Would not take long to exceed the cost of a more expensive /presumably better unit that had longer life or self cleaning filters. Razor and Blade scenerio seems to be the typical marketing strategy for most of these types of units.
