(More customer reviews)I got this because I knew in advance that my tap water was 'hard'. In the drop humidifier instructions (which you don't read until you have purchased the thing) it says - note: It is recommended you used filtered or distilled water. The reason is because the minerals in tap water will cause some white dust to come from the machine. And I guess over time it will cause the unit to not work properly. Anyway I got this thing and they don't list here that it should be replaced after 30-40 refills - and you refill every day. That means the life of the filter is around a month. Just consider this expense if you have hard water like almost everyone does.
The filter itself is around 3x5 inches. It fits in there just fine. You have to soak it for 30 minutes before you put it in the machine.
