(More customer reviews)Don't buy one. A little over a year ago, my husband purchased an Oreck XL for me after back surgery because it is light-weight & would be easier for me to use. I used it for about a year when I realized that I had never changed the bag. I checked the bag & found very little dirt in the bottom of it. I then waited until some remodeling was finished in my house to really give it the test. Again, there was very little in the bag. I took the vacuum into the Oreck dealership for its one-year service explaining that it didn't seem to be picking up much of anything. The serviceman then proceeded to show me that it would pick up some rice crispy cereal sprinkled on the top of a carpet & sent me on my way. Certain that it wasn't working correctly, I contacted Oreck headquarters who told me that I needed to have it serviced. I told them that I had already done that & that there was no difference in the suction, or, should I say, lack thereof - still very little dirt in that same bag. When I asked for a refund, I was told that it was "up to the individual franchises." However, that franchise was of absolutely no help. Nobody cared! They had my money & that's all they wanted.
My friend also had a problem with her Oreck XL. Hers spewed dust out everywhere. And we both noticed that our carpets were getting dingier & dingier as time went by. I've thrown my Oreck away & bought a Dyson which I absolutely love. Stay away from Oreck. They don't work & nobody cares.
