It managed to stop mineral deposits from building up further on the side of the resevoir, but the water gained a musty smell after a 15 gallons/three weeks of use. I sanitize with chlorinated water bi-weekly.
It was especially apparent in warm heated rooms. The risk of bacterial growth outweighs the benefits of the filter for me and I do not recommend this product.

Demineralization Filter Cartridge helps reduce white dust, which is a deposit of minerals caused by hard water. For best results replace filter after every 30-40 fillings under normal use or 1-2 months or when the humidifier has not been operated for an extended period of time.
