I did an internet search and found that this could mean bad capacitors in the power supply which could possibly lead to a fire. i would not recommend this product. this unit is smaller than i was expecting; it is 11" tall and 5.5" in diameter. i have it in our small bathroom at the moment because it was too small to affect the humidity level in the 120 square foot room i had originally put it in (i have a hygrometer in the room to measure its humidity and this unit did not affect the humidity level in 24 hours). i doubt it is adequate for our tiny bathroom. it seems like it might be adequate for a not-too-humid closet. it says it removes 16oz. a day at 86 degrees Fahrenheit, but whose house it 86 degrees? in our humid bathroom it sucks up a mere third of an inch a day.

I will add this; they don't honor their warranty obligations, and if their customer service weren't a run-around, it would be non-existent. My Haier dehumidifirer died before its warranty period was up, and I followed Haier's instructions for intiating a warranty replacement. It has been a month since they received the package of items they requested, and they still haven't shipped a new unit. DeLonghi DE400P Energy-Star 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Pump Review

(More customer reviews)New, out of the box, I turned this dehumidifier on and what a noise it made.
I removed the cabinet from around the unit and found that the fan blades were striking the top of the compreser. Because the threads of two of the three bolts that hold the compresser in place were stripped and the nuts could not be tightened down on those bolts thus the compresser leaned over to get itself under the fan blades. I added washers to the bolts so that the nuts didn't have as far to go to tighten and re-applied the nuts which pulled the compresser upright and now the fan blades don't hit. The person who installed those compresser nuts had to know they had stripped the bolts but sent it out to the customer anyway.
Now, two days later and the pump doesn't pump.
I've written DeLonghi telling them that I will ship the unit at my expense to either DeLonghi or Amazon, their choice but that I wanted my money back.
I'll keep you posted.

(More customer reviews)Purchased this for our basement where we keep cat litter boxes in the unfinished area. Keeping the humidity down helps keep the odor down, so we love this product. The real test will come next summer during high humidity. Only problem we had was putting the front cover back on after using a garden hose for direct drain...the cut out area for the hose is not quite big enough. However, finally solved the problem with common sense. Just left the cover off and taped the fill indicater shut (has to be shut for the unit to start running). So far doing a great job.

However, I was concerned that the "brick" on the AC cord was hot, so hot that I couldn't hold it for more than a few seconds. I found out online that such a problem could be a fire hazard! I called the company, Sunpentown, and they mailed out another cord with the instructions that if this one was also abnormally hot (which it was), I should mail the whole unit back (which I did). Sounds like they've had this problem more than once before. The replacement unit also has a really hot cord. So I suppose this merry-go-round will continue until they hopefully refund my money.

If power goes off you need to reset the unit again. Unit is heavy and runs with low noise. It does an outstanding job of clearing moisture from RV unit. (More customer reviews)I live in a coastal region that receives high levels of moisture and humidity on a daily basis. To top it off, my house has bathrooms which have no ventilation, so we've often had to deal with mold problems. The answer to my problems arrived in the form of a small box-shaped dehumidifier called "Eva Dry".
This device works tremendously well, pulling moisture out of the air at a reasonable rate. The 16oz reservoir takes about one week to fill up, when I leave it running constantly. I use it in my bathroom mainly, but once in a while my bedroom will feel damp, and it handles the 12'x14' space just as effectively as it does the bathroom. My only complaint is that it's not nearly as quiet as I thought it would be, and the power cord is kind of bulky for bathroom use; I have to tuck it all away someplace, and my only outlets are on the counter, so that's a bit aggravating. The product loses one star for that.
I recommend this to anyone who has ventilation problems and needs to be rid of excess moisture in small to medium sized spaces.

DeLonghi DE400 40-Pint Dehumidifier Review

(More customer reviews)First off: the first unit I received was defective but as usual Amazon's customer service was outstanding. The replacement is fine and is actively removing gallons of water from my basement. I saved the price of the pump model by routing the water drain to the water pump connected to my gas furnace and that works fine too.
The product has some shortcomings though. First, the fan is quite loud. Don't even consider using this in a living space. Second, the fan runs all the time, even when the set humidity level is reached. That may be necessary to maintain and accurate measurement of the ambiant humidity but it's wasteful and noisy. The auto-on/off timer is useless because it only allows to set the start time OR the stop time and it has to be reset every time. A more useful feature would have allowed me to set the unit to start at 8 PM every night and stop at 8 AM the next morning for example. Lastly, the drain tubing included is way too short so plan on buying some extra.

Only complaint is that the plastic shield to direct air flow is flimsy. We tried to redirect the flow and it fell off. When you try to put it back on it is difficult and one pin broke. Luckily the shield is more window dressing, as the unit works well without it. It has a nice extra feature of an ionizer to purify the air. Not sure if this really works, but we have all breathed easier since we have run this dehumidifier in our home.

It is ideal for small spaces; I have a 6'x'10x8'h brick structure that is up against a hillside, so quite a bit of moisture comes through two walls even though they are moisture blocked. This unit extracts about 1/2 cup of water per day when the space is closed. This is just enough to satisfy my needs and prevent deterioration of contents. It wouldn't draw enough for a larger area. It would be very good for walk-in closets, even larger than my space, since they would generally have less moisture than I have. I don't believe there would be sufficient benefit for use in a living area since the unit would be overwhelmed by ventilation, having such a little volume capability. This would also be ideal for enclosed spaces in coastal areas.

Frigidaire FAD704TDD 70-Pint Dehumidifier, White Review

(More customer reviews)I've been using this dehumidifier for about 2 weeks now. I guess it is a brand new model for this year and that is why I am the first review. I figured that last years model had good reviews so this years model can't be too bad. Plus I've had great luck with our 16 year old Frigidaire refrigerator so they must know compressors well.
Unit was boxed very well and packaged acceptally from Amazon. You cut the plastic straps off and lift off the box exterior from the base. You can then pick up the unit from the handle on top. It is a plastic handle but doesn't feel fragile when you lift it. It is pretty heavy, but wasn't a problem for me to carry downstairs to my garage.
Setup was easy if I remember correctly. Just pull off some tape in a couple of places and plug in the cord. I had it run on continuous for several days but have now dropped it down to keeping it at 35 or 40 percent. It has digital pushbutton controls which I haven't really explored too much. There is a 2 digit numeric display which I think shows the set value and after a moment the current humidity that it is seeing. I'd have to check the manual on that for sure though. That is the way it acted.
I current have it in a garage that is not very warm. It has been into the upper 30's and 40's there the past couple of weeks. I needed this dehumidifier out there to keep a bunch of woodworking tools from rusting. I drive the car into the garage and all of the snow drips off of it and onto the concrete. I was worried about the humidity level in there even in the winter. The equipment I have out there is worth too much to have it rust!
It is really sucking the moisture out of the air though. After about 5 days of running, I had a full bucket. It holds a lot of water. The bucket is easy to remove from the unit. It has a handle to carry it with. There isn't really a good spout on the bucket to pour it out of though - at least I haven't found a corner that works well yet. I poured the water down the floor drain and it kind of splashes a bit.
There is a way to hook a threaded garden hose up to the unit so you can just dump the water into a floor drain or wherever.
That is probably my biggest gripe is that they should of included a small 2-4 foot hose for that already. I don't want to go buy some 25 foot garden hose and cut it off to what I need. I'm going to see if I can buy a threaded end and basically make my own out of some tubing or something. I don't want to have to dump the bucket every few days and since I have a floor drain right there, that is the way I would operate it. Of course if you are using this in your house without access to an easy drain, you'll have to remove the bucket and maybe dump it in a bathtub or something.
I would imagine that as soon as the humidity gets here this summer, this unit will really be working hard. Of course opening the garage doors a couple times of day will really let the humidity back in but it will just have to pull it back out.
One more thing - I could NOT find this specific unit listed on any Frigidaire websites which kind of worried me that it is some off-model unit or something. I think Amazon just probably has access to selling it and have it listed before Frigidaire actually has it listed up on their website.

(More customer reviews)This is my newest Sunpentown dehumidifier. I got my first (an SD-60E) almost 2 years ago. I've used many home dehumidifiers (Hampton Bay, Maytag, Fedders, Amana, Whirlpool) over many years. My two Sunpentowns are the most effective by any measure. Their water buckets are bigger, yet need to be emptied as often or more, even when used in the basement where temperatures are lower and many dehumidifiers lose effectiveness. I can now keep my whole house under 45% with only two dehumidifiers where I used to need three. Also, they're quieter, which is very important. At first I worried that they occasionally seemed to run unnecessarily, but I now realize they're smart devices and sometimes move air (with compressor off) just to monitor it better. They don't need to be reset after a power failure. The filters are easy to remove and vacuum. Also, readings are more accurate than on older models. One very minor complaint: I could wish for a pause button (off for an hour, then resume, in case you want super quiet for a while). But overall I'm far happier with my two SPTs than any other dehumidifiers.

(More customer reviews)This if my first experience with a dehumidifier. The rapid dry just wasn't cutting it in the new apartment/new city. I use this to reduce the humidity in a 700+ square foot apartment from the 60's to the 40's. It works. The handle rattles slightly so making it as quiet as it can be took a tiny bit of effort. The water collection bin needs to be emptied once every day or two depending on how long it runs and the humidity. It's too loud to have in the same room to watch tv - but does an okay job keeping the apartment under 50% just running it during the day while we're at work. Turning the humidity dial down doesn't decrease the noise level.
Wish I didn't need to use one.

(More customer reviews)We had a Haier dehumidifier for a week emptying it occasionally before we realized the automatic shutoff didn't work. It flooded our basement ruining the carpet. Then Haier's insurance company doesn't want to pay for the replacement carpet.
We sent our unit back for replacement. So far nothing, they've had it for a few days but didn't send one out until we called then said they'll send it out.
Poor product, poor customer support, poor relations with claims. No more Haier products for us.

(More customer reviews)I bought two mini dehumidifier at once, this one and the Eva-dry EDV-1100 Electric Petite Dehumidifier. Hands down, the Eva-dry out performs this! They are about 7' apart, but yet the Eva dry can pull out about 8oz of water every 3 days, compared to the 2 tblsp or so this device does.
However, this device is much quieter than the Eva-dry.
As for the UV light, is it really necessary? Better yet...does it really even work? I wouldnt know....

I hang mine just out outside our guinea pig's cage and it absorbs excess moisture quite effectively, keeping their food and cage area from getting too humid. It takes several weeks to fully absorb moisture but the indicator will go from blue to bright pink, and the unit will be noticeably heavier. Just plug the unit into the socket overnight to refresh.

This high capacity renewable dehumidifier has been designed to adsorb moisture from small, enclosed areas.It will help protect clothes and valuables from the damaging effects of mold/mildew and moisture rot. It is 100% renewable and needs no power to operate. Just hang the Eva-dry unit in a closet, or you can place it in other small, enclosed spaces, and it will start to adsorb moisture. There are no batteries required or cords to plug in, the unit works without power. There is an indicator window with special "moisture meter crystals" that change from blue (when dry) to pink (when wet) to indicate when the unit needs to be "renewed". The unit will adsorb approximately 8-10 ounces of moisture (depending on humidity levels this should take between 6 - 8 weeks). Once the moisture has been adsorbed it cannot leak or spill.
