(More customer reviews)This filter isn't as good as the original filter it replaced. When I first bought the air purifier, it did a fantastic job of absorbing odor from the litter box. Now that the original filter is gone and I am using this replacement, there are times when the odor can overwhelm its capabilities.
I suspect it has something to do with the use of (more?) baking soda in the original filter. I have no idea if the replacement uses any.
Secondly, these filters are exceedingly difficult to find. Because none of the local retailers carry it anymore -- including the store that sold me the air purifier -- I have to buy it online.
Lastly, this filter is darned expensive!
The moral of the story: If you're buying an air purifier, make sure the filters are easily replaceable and at a reasonable price.

HAPF-115 Holmes HEPA Air Cleaner Replacement Filter Review

(More customer reviews)What I ordered and what I got, was two different items. I have three of the same holmes air cleaners in my home and have had them for about five years now. I always order the same filters, HAP 115. For some reason these filters (although the picture shows the correct product) came without the cotton side and are a DOT too big. You have to SQUEEZE the filter into the machine. Very disappointed with my purchase.

(More customer reviews)Good price for a true HEPA filter. I have a Bionaire air cleaner and the standard refills for it are only HEPA type filters. The filter door won't stay closed on the Bionaire with these filters, but a bungee wrapped around the unit did the trick. I have 6 cats so I need the true HEPA filters. I plan to buy more of these.

It is a semi-coarse, self supporting filter media embedded with carbon. It cuts easily with boning shears to fit some obsolete or custom blower units. I use it as a secondary filter after a large particle filter and before a HEPA style filter for a continually dusty area. I feel it works well for my situation.

You can wash the old pads with dish soap but hardly worth the trouble and they shrink some. They probably loose some functionality in the wash also.

Holmes® HAP412N-U HEPA-Type Mini Tower Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using this Holmes Air Purifier for several months and can give it my 5 STAR recommendation.
It has 3 speed settings for the fan and a separate switch that turns on the ionizer. At the mid or low setting the fan is nice and quiet. On high it's a bit loud but tolerable for daytime activites. I keep my unit running all the time on the medium setting and also keep the ionizer turned on.
Within a couple of hours of first setting up the unit, I noticed an immediate improvement in the air in my bedroom (12 x 14). It seemed "fresher" and easier to breathe. After a few days my dust allergies were virtually gone and breathing, while I was asleep, was much easier. Before buying it, I would wake up with a stuffy nose and a dry mouth because my nose was plugged and I was forced to breathe through my mouth. (Yuk!)
The black soot commented on by the other reviewer is due to the negatives ions which attach themselves to the smoke particles in the room and make them drop to floor. If you don't smoke it won't be much of a problem. Some minor residue will be found in and around the unit but this comes about because the negative ions make dust and other particulates fall to the floor. A quick wipe or vacuum easily eliminates this problem. Besides, I would rather have them on the floor than floating around in the air, wouldn't you?
The cost of the unit is fabulous (less than $50.00). That sure beats other ionic units that want more than $300.00! I have owned both and will never go back after trying this one. It's cheap, effective and actually works better than the more expensive, but well known, model.
