(More customer reviews)The Honeywell heater arrived packed within its own box within an Amazon box and was well protected. Getting started was as easy as plugging it in. All the features have little icons on the heater but you may need to review the instructions once to understand the icons. Pluses: the heater begins to warm immediately. Even the low power setting seems to generate heat for a small room. The oscillating feature is virtually soundless. The timer turns off the heater within a few minutes of the setting. Minuses: While the temperature display is very easy to read, the actual temperature setting is like a toy. The heater does cycle off close to a setting but the displayed temperature is not very accurate. Also the temperature resets to 75 when the unit is turned off so your desired temperature must be reset every time the unit is turned on. Also, every button that is pressed creates an annoying "beep" that I cannot seem to turn off or decrease. Overall, this is a good basic heater suitable for smaller rooms.

(More customer reviews)I had high expectations for this filter, but it is absolutely unusable because it fills the room with a noxious fake-vanilla odor. In contrast to the statements in the owners manual (which claims the odor will only last a short while), this odor remained very strong for over a month of continuous use on the highest fan speed. Eventually, BlueAir sent me a replacement set of filters because the first set I had were supposedly defective. The odor from the set of replacement filters was even worse. All subsequent attempts to contact BlueAir customer service regarding this issue have gone unanswered.
I have no idea if this filter is at all effective in removing odors because they have introduced a much stronger, equally offensive smell into the room where the filter is. If you have a room that you'd like to reek of fake vanilla, buy this product, or perhaps just a $5 Glade plug-in.

Need to refill every day or two with a couple gallons of H2O and it also has an ICE TRAY you can add ice cubes to that helps cool a little more.
Will buy another if the need arises.

Only after filling the entire tray with ice and water chilled overnight does this thing have any cooling effect and even than, it's only for an hour or so.
Anything less then ice and ice water will do nothing more than generate humidity and waste power.
Save your money and buy a real AC unit for supplemental cooling.

(More customer reviews)The mobile home I live in has no heat or AC, so I thought this would be a good way to supply both. Though it was very heavy and hard to move, unless you are on a hard floor where the casters can work, I managed to get it all hooked up. Things went well for the first couple of weeks and then I don't know what happened, but every morning that I use it I find that the little tray that sits underneath the unit and catches the water, when you open the drain plug, is filled to overflowing and I must empty it and wipe up the floor around it. This happens whether I have the little rubber plug they supplied pushed into the hole or I have the screw on plug put on as it seems to leak from underneath the unit itself. I am very happy that I was sort of forced into putting it in a room that had a vinyl floor!
I have tried emptying the accumulated water before retiring and leaving it unemptied - neither works. I called Soleus and was put on hold - they said I was 9th in line and would be on hold for about 11 minutes; about 40 minutes later a man came on to tell me that they would call me back; that was a week ago! I turned the unit over to see if I could gain access to the inside and see what was up, but that didn't work either.
I hesitate to return it as I was barely able to get it from my porch to where I wanted it and I know I couldn't get it into a vehicle to send it back; not to mention that the packaging is gone and that it cost me $60.00 to have it sent and would be near that to return it. I guess I have resigned myself to cleaning up after it each morning.

I wipe those things off, but hesitate to use a moist spray disinfectant on them. Now maybe we all won't share the cold & flu this winter as in the last few years.
It is a little bulky, that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars...still a very good price compared to the one that flips open.

(More customer reviews)My basement runs about 80% humidity all year round and stays about a constant 62 as well.I have had this unit running for a month and it has done everything I have asked of it.The basement is 1200 square foot and this dehumidifier has lowered the humidity to 55% which is where I have it set.I have it hosed to a drain and it is fairly loud on the high setting.The only negative I would note is the bucket seems a little flimsy if you are opting not to hose it to a drain.Actually it is the handle of the bucket that is suspect.Overall very happy with this product.

(More customer reviews)First off, this is NOT an air conditioner. If you expect your room to be freezing cold, this is not the product for you. It's a COOLER, and it does its job very well. It works by evaporating water. Try soaking a T-shirt, wringing it out, and putting it on wet to get the effect. It doesn't work very well in humid areas, but it works GREAT where the air is dry.
I'm in southern California, where the humidity varies pretty widely. I place the cooler six or eight feet from my chair, and on the hottest days I'm quite comfortable.
Benefits:
* it's about 1/5 the cost of an air conditioner
* operating expense is a fraction of the cost of air conditioning
* neat features! (timer, sleep function, etc.)
* remote control
Drawbacks:
* it's not freezing cold like air conditioning.

SPT SF-610 Portable Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer Review

(More customer reviews)There are so many things wrong with this unit that I'm surprised I've managed to remember them all. Some other reviewers have touched base on them already, but here are the details:
* You put water and/or ice in the top of the unit; you cannot put water where the ice is and vice-versa. The area where you pour water into is about 3x2 inches in size (yes, really!), while the area for ice is about 7x3 inches. You literally need a funnel or a small plastic tube to fill the unit up with water (see below). But it gets worse...
* Easily the biggest flaw: the water/melted ice goes down a tube and literally into the casing of the unit! There is no water tank, or centralized hold for liquids. The entire bottom of the unit is the "tank", if you can even call it that.
* The two cooling packs provided contain some sort of cheap coolant liquid inside of them -- they do cool quite well, but here's the problem: they're physically too large. The cooling packs are dropped into the bottom of the casing (where the water is), right into the water. They don't mount inside anywhere.
* The "door" for the cooling packs is too small for my hand (and I have small hands), which makes removing the cooling packs impossible. It took me a good 5 minutes using a pair of plastic pliers to grab a pack and remove it. The door is held shut with magnets, which is admittedly nice. But the door empties right into the water "tank", which means you might as well fill it up from the side and not the top! What were they thinking when they engineered this thing?!
* Water pump is a pump intended for aquariums. If you open up the back of the unit (which you have to do for water filter cleaning; see below), you can peek inside and see quite clearly printed on the pump "AQUARIUM PUMP". Most aquarium pumps I know are loud, not soft/quiet nor do they hum; and because the pump is screw-mounted to the bottom of the unit (which is plastic), I'm left thinking the entire unit must vibrate heavily when powered on. This makes you question the production quality of this item.
* Water refill line is recessed deep inside the unit due to how the plastic casing is molded; it's impossible to read, and it's incredibly important (see above) to not go above a certain fill line. If you go above the line, water will start to come out of the front of the unit, and the rear of the unit (bottom of where the air filter starts).
* The air/lint filter on the back is easily removable. However, to clean the water filter, you must remove 6 screws and proceed to wiggle/wobble plastic pieces until you pull the back of the unit out. Why screws? Why not some retention plastic, or a clip? Better yet, why not magnets like the ones used on the coolant door? You cannot remove it entirely, because attached to it (permanently) is a bright orange hose connected somewhere within the unit; it has no slack. You need 3-4 hands to do this job.
* The water filter itself is what looks to be nylon webbing, identical to what some people use in a clothes hamper. It's just some cheap mesh with some Velcro on it so you can remove it semi-easily.
* Manual states you must clean the water filter every 2 weeks. Yup, you get to disassemble the unit that often. Fun for the whole family?
* Much to my amusement, the drainage spout (if you need to drain the unit) is directly behind where the AC power cord is. Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?
Should you avoid this product? Absolutely. I'm left wishing I could give this thing negative stars; seriously, SPT should be ashamed for engineering something like this. I realize it's somewhat inexpensive, but what you get for under a hundred US dollars isn't even worth it.

(More customer reviews)I love this device. It is hard to tell if it really works by just looking at it. The proof comes from the smell it gives off when you sanitize your linens. Also, if you have allergies, you just might feel a lot better in the morning after sanitizing your pillow.
I read some other reviews that said the switch came on too easily. Mine isn't like that at all. You have to really slide it to make it come on. The little flash light is a nice bonus. That will come in handy while at hotels.
It is a little cheaply made, thus the 4 stars. For a hand held portable/travel device, this will work great. Some UV-C devices won't let you turn them face up but you can with this one. Those others have a safety feature which will shut off if turned upwards. This one also works continuously until you shut it off.
I purchased this device after getting ill in Mexico. I want to sanitize my room and water on the next trip. I plan on ordering the SteriPEN Classic Handheld Water Purifier next. I am not sure if you can use this device to sterilize orange juice like one review did. The SteriPen says it can only be used on clear water not other beverages. So maybe the same would be true for this device?
Use it for soft and hard surfaces and you'll have peace of mind.

(More customer reviews)This ionizer is perfect for a household room, or even to take with you to the office in your purse. It is a little wider than the size of a coke can (3x2.5x4.5 inches). There are slits for air intake on the sides and rings on the top for outgoing air. There are five-ish tiny ionizing bulbs on the top which do most of the work. If you hold it near you, you can feel a gentle stream of air come out of the top. I put this in my living room, and after 20 mins, smelled the scent of ionized air. Also, the device has a weak ringing sound typical of an ionizer, but nothing too loud, say than the hum of your laptop computer. Also, you can put in 4 AA batteries, or plug it in. This little ionizer is more effective than I had expected it to be, so I think it is doing a good job. You also can put it on "strong" or "normal" mode with the touch of a button, and turn it on and off with another button. Very cool, I'd recommend it.

Holmes® HAP412N-U HEPA-Type Mini Tower Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using this Holmes Air Purifier for several months and can give it my 5 STAR recommendation.
It has 3 speed settings for the fan and a separate switch that turns on the ionizer. At the mid or low setting the fan is nice and quiet. On high it's a bit loud but tolerable for daytime activites. I keep my unit running all the time on the medium setting and also keep the ionizer turned on.
Within a couple of hours of first setting up the unit, I noticed an immediate improvement in the air in my bedroom (12 x 14). It seemed "fresher" and easier to breathe. After a few days my dust allergies were virtually gone and breathing, while I was asleep, was much easier. Before buying it, I would wake up with a stuffy nose and a dry mouth because my nose was plugged and I was forced to breathe through my mouth. (Yuk!)
The black soot commented on by the other reviewer is due to the negatives ions which attach themselves to the smoke particles in the room and make them drop to floor. If you don't smoke it won't be much of a problem. Some minor residue will be found in and around the unit but this comes about because the negative ions make dust and other particulates fall to the floor. A quick wipe or vacuum easily eliminates this problem. Besides, I would rather have them on the floor than floating around in the air, wouldn't you?
The cost of the unit is fabulous (less than $50.00). That sure beats other ionic units that want more than $300.00! I have owned both and will never go back after trying this one. It's cheap, effective and actually works better than the more expensive, but well known, model.

(More customer reviews)As someone who is highly allergic to cigarette smoke and other air pollutants and irritants, I purchased a round Honeywell HEPA air filter when it first came on the market several years ago. It still works well in the living room, but it is quite noisy even on its lowest setting.
This year I purchased another Honeywell air cleaner with a HEPA filter (Model 17400) for my bedroom because I had contacted bacterial pneumonia last year and wanted to make sure I did not get it again. Next, I purchased this Honeywell 17000 Air Cleaner (with HEPA filter) for use in a smaller bedroom which has been turned into a home office and library.
These air cleaners really work! This winter I have not had a cold or flu. Also, this Honeywell Air Cleaner with HEPA filter is whisper soft, and I have had no problems with sleeping, working, reading, watching tv, or listening to music when it is running on the low and medium settings. I leave it on all the time, and I've found that it cleans the air best when the door is closed.
It has a convenient handle on the top, so I can move it to another room quite easily. Also, it is light enough that I can take it with me in the car if I want to use it away from home.
The prefilters last about 3-6 months, (and they can be vacuumed often if you have pets who shed). I change my HEPA filter every year, but you can wait 3 years to do so. These filters are easy to change. The Model 17000 is for a smaller room, and the Model 17400 is for a larger space.
Highly recommended for anyone who has pets, who lives with or entertains people who smoke, and who is allergic to dust, molds, or pollens.
