This Evaporative Air Cooler, Humidifier, and Fan by Sunpentown is versatile, lightweight and economical way that blows moist cooler feeling air than the ambient temperature. The Cooler easily rolls from room to room for use anywhere in your house or office. This Air Cooler shoots a stream of air with oscillating louvers, to evenly distribute refreshing cool air. Can also be used as a fan or humidifier if temperature is not an issue. The remote control allows you to easily change settings. The Air Cooler works by endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat), so this evaporative Air Cooler sucks air through a wick saturated with water. As the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. An air stream is then blown out the front of the unit that can feel up to 12°F cooler than the current room temperature! This is not an air conditioner and therefore uses much less energy. It is best to be used in the dry climate or an open space. Leave window/door open if temperature rise or humidity builds up in the room. Add as much ice as possible and set the unit right next to you for better effect.

(More customer reviews)To be fair, the product does not claim to be an air conditioner. However, it does claim to cool 12 degrees cooler, which I didn't find at all. I live in a dry Colorado climate, and still it is barely cooler than a fan. You have to fill it with tons of ice to even get that, and it requires refilling with water and ice often. If you don't clean it at least once a week, it starts smelling really bad.
All this effort of refilling and cleaning is not worth the 3 to 5 degrees cooler you get. For that, I'd rather just plug in a fan and not have to worry about it every day. Save your money and buy a portable air conditioner. It's worth the extra investment, trust me.

(More customer reviews)Room cools a 15 x 20 ft. room plus attached bathroom nicely. I am in a fairly dry desert climate and it is cheaper and more effective than A/C.
Need to refill every day or two with a couple gallons of H2O and it also has an ICE TRAY you can add ice cubes to that helps cool a little more.
Will buy another if the need arises.

(More customer reviews)First off, this is NOT an air conditioner. If you expect your room to be freezing cold, this is not the product for you. It's a COOLER, and it does its job very well. It works by evaporating water. Try soaking a T-shirt, wringing it out, and putting it on wet to get the effect. It doesn't work very well in humid areas, but it works GREAT where the air is dry.
I'm in southern California, where the humidity varies pretty widely. I place the cooler six or eight feet from my chair, and on the hottest days I'm quite comfortable.
Benefits:
* it's about 1/5 the cost of an air conditioner
* operating expense is a fraction of the cost of air conditioning
* neat features! (timer, sleep function, etc.)
* remote control
Drawbacks:
* it's not freezing cold like air conditioning.

(More customer reviews)I have two LG 9,000's for the bigger rooms which I LOVE but needed one a bit smaller for my babies room (the central AC is horrible at cooling upstairs!), so we got this one the other day and it is perfect. You don't need to drain it so I don't know what the previous review was talking about. It is self - evaporating and uses it's own water cond. to cool itself. The window mount it much better then my LG's too. It's a very stylish and a small box AC that works wonderful and keeps me less stressed at night worrying about the comfort of my 18 month old at night. I have a thermostat reading in my room that tells me the temp in his room and this AC keep it exactly at what I wanted it to. Love it so far and recommend for sure!
