Since November I had really noticed how much drier it is in Illinois, especially at night with the heat on full blast. We purchased this humidifier and have been running it for about a week. It has been awesome. If you can deal with having to refill every night before bed, then you'll enjoy this piece of electronics. All dryness that I had to deal with at night before we got this is gone. It's pretty sweet. A night light that changes from green to blue is nice and relaxing. Not overwhelming unless you are a pitch black sleeper. It offers a bunch of settings, has an ionizer and allows you to adjust the humidity. I researched this pretty hard and it seemed like this would be the best bang for the buck and so far it is. For 43 bucks and free shipping you can't beat it. I'll do a follow-up in a few months, but so far so good. It's got my blessing.

(More customer reviews)I've had this humidifier for 3 years and it has been a great machine!! I use it every night, mostly in the fall and winter months, without fail. It is quiet and small enough to place on a night stand by my bed. I use purified water and I don't have any problems with white dust or water spots. I would recommend 2 of these for larger bedrooms or living areas. Very easy to use and keep clean.

(More customer reviews)I was very disappointed with this product. Initially, it appeared to be exactly what I was looking for. A small, attractive, filterless humidifier for a baby nursery that had natural antimicrobial properties.
Prior to purchasing, I read a number of online reviews. Like most products, there were mixed results, but overall the impressions seemed positive. I had read a review by Paul here who claimed that the product didn't work. I assumed his review was hyperbole. Turns out Paul was right. It just plain doesn't work.
We ran this humidifier in our baby's nursery for 16 hours straight (refilling so the tank was never empty). In 16 hours, the humidity went from 33% to 34% !?!? It just plain doesn't work.
Now, I should also state some obvious stuff. We used the product in what should have been an appropriate environment. The room is very small 9'x9' and the door was closed to eliminate loss of humidity. Also, my experience can not be explained away as a single faulty unit. I had ordered two (another for the master bedroom), so we retested with a second model with identical results. Both produced a visible mist immediately above the unit, so they were 'working'.
This product has great features in theory. I was excited by the nano silver technology which in theory should make for a clean and low maintenance experience.
I returned this product and purchased a well known brand. While it didn't have all the flashy features of this Germ Guardian, it just plain works. I installed it 10 minutes ago and the room humidity has climbed more than 5%.
Bottom line. This product doesn't work. If you plan to purchase it despite these warnings, make sure you keep your receipt for the return.

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these humidifiers last winter. At first, I loved it so much I ordered 2 more for my kids. We used them for 3 months and then put them away when we shut down the heater for the season. This winter, however, we've had nothing but problems. The first one started leaking water . (I suggest putting the unit in a shallow container if you have nice furniture, as this happens quite often.) The units were still under warranty so I contacted the company. They tried everything possible to persuade me from returning it. Their solutions to fix the unit were as follows: Clean the unit with lemon juice, only use distilled water, and empty the unit when not in use. I already do all of these things, but I have no idea how that will "repair" a leak. The unit leak so much that it stopped working. I spend $10 to return the unit. A week later someone from the company called to say there was nothing wrong with it so they were sending it back without doing any repairs. Needless to say, since they didn't bother fixing or replacing it, the unit still leaks water and doesn't produce mist.
When the first one broke, I started using one of the others I had. But after just one month of use, that one no longer produces mist. And now the third unit just started leaking water. I'm really screwed now because at this point all 3 units are out of warranty.
Initially, I spent over $150 on the three units I bought. I can't believe Sunpentown refused to do anything about the defective one I sent back. You think they would've replaced it just to keep a good customer. Take my advice: SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! THIS UNIT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY...AND SUNPENTOWN DOES NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY!!!

(More customer reviews)One might think from the product literature that you are buying a humidifier that has a 9 gallon water tank capacity. Not true. You are buying a humidifer that has the capacity to output 9 gallons of water per 24 hours. Since each water tank is only 1.5 gallons, this means you have to fill the tanks six times (three times each tank) to get the maximum output. Not very practical for a home humidifier.
To refill the water tanks you must turn them upside down. Unfortunately the bottom (i.e. the top turned upside down), is not flat. This requires a fair amount of juggling when you refill the tanks as they will not stand up by themselves. The engineer who designed this product must have missed the class on ergronomics.
Since you can not see in the water tanks when they are in use, and there is no low water indicator on the machine, you can not judge how much water is left by looking. You have to pick up the tanks. Again ergronomically challenging.
This product is very noisy on the high setting, similar to a window fan on high. Because the water tanks do not fit well, they vibrate when they are near empty.
If you place this product on a wooden floor, it will warp the floor from the humidity. The product also leaks when you refill it.
Best to pass this product by.
